From the Fundación Terra Termarum Castrolandín, we are beginning a new stage in the dissemination of our work on the research and recovery of Castreña pottery with the touring exhibition «Castreña Pottery in Galicia: Research and Recovery», which will begin its journey through the province of Pontevedra on 15 September in Sanxenxo.
Our exhibition can be visited at the A Telleira Interpretation Centre, A Fianteira – Vilalonga (Sanxenxo), from 15 September to 15 October 2026.
This exhibition brings together a collection of reproductions of ceramic pieces from 28 archaeological sites in Galicia, the result of the work we have been carrying out at the Foundation since 2005 in the fields of research, experimental archaeology and the recovery of Castreña pottery.
Through our Castrolandín Experimental Castreña Pottery Workshop, we have been studying pottery productions from the Castreña period and experimenting with the processes required for their recreation since 2005. We work from preserved archaeological pieces, their fragments, archaeological drawings and the available documentation in order to recover their shapes, proportions, decorations, finishes and manufacturing techniques.
Each reproduction presented in the exhibition is therefore the result of a process of research and experimentation, in which we combine archaeological knowledge with craftsmanship in order to gain a better understanding of the techniques and forms of pottery production during the Castreña period.
An exhibition as part of «Trazas de Pontevedra»
The tour of our exhibition is taking place as part of the «Trazas de Pontevedra» project, an initiative promoted by the Deputación de Pontevedra, through Turismo Rías Baixas, to contribute to the promotion and dissemination of the province’s archaeological heritage.
Throughout 2026 and 2027, we will take this exhibition to five municipalities in the province of Pontevedra. After this first stop in Sanxenxo, the tour will continue to Marín, Tui, A Guarda and Vilagarcía de Arousa.
For us, this tour represents an opportunity to share the results of our work with new audiences and to showcase the research we carry out at the Foundation into Castreña pottery and the recovery of the material heritage of the Iron Age in Galicia.
Complementary activities in Sanxenxo
During the exhibition’s stay in Sanxenxo, we will also offer a programme of complementary activities aimed at different audiences, through which we want to introduce Castreña pottery in a practical, participatory and educational way.
On 24 September, at 7:30 p.m., we will host a lecture by Mar Cortegoso Comesaña and Elena Cabrejas Domínguez. This will be followed, at 8:30 p.m., by a guided tour of the exhibition.
On 26 September and 3 October, we will hold two Castreña pottery workshops for adults, where we will be able to share, in a practical way, part of the experimentation and recreation process that we carry out in our workshop.
We will also offer three educational workshops for children, designed to introduce younger visitors to Castreña pottery in an enjoyable, participatory and fun way, allowing them to work directly with clay and discover the shapes and characteristics of the pieces.
Activities aimed at groups will be carried out by prior reservation, in accordance with the programme established during the exhibition’s stay.
With this touring exhibition, the Fundación Terra Termarum Castrolandín wants to continue sharing our work and demonstrating how research, experimental archaeology, craftsmanship and public engagement can come together to understand, recover and promote Castreña pottery and Galicia’s archaeological heritage.
